Setting up a Custom Domain with Squarespace Domains

Note: Google Domains was acquired by Squarespace in 2023 and all domains were migrated by mid-2024. If you previously managed your domain through Google Domains, it is now managed through Squarespace Domains.

Adding a CNAME Record

  1. Go to your Squarespace Domains dashboard and click on your domain name.
  2. Click DNS, then DNS Settings.
  3. Scroll down to Custom Records and click Add Record.
  4. You may be asked to re-authenticate with your password.
  5. In the Type dropdown, select CNAME.
  6. In the Host field, enter: www
  7. In the Data field (sometimes labeled “Alias Data”), enter your IndieMade URL (e.g., yourshop.indiemade.com). Do not include http:// or any slashes - just the hostname.
  8. Click Save.

Setting Up Domain Forwarding

You need to forward your root domain (yourdomain.com) to www.yourdomain.com so visitors who omit the “www” still reach your site.

  1. In your Squarespace Domains dashboard, click on your domain.
  2. Look for the Forwarding section.
  3. In the Subdomain field, enter @ to represent the root domain.
  4. Under Enter website URL, enter your domain with www (e.g., www.yourdomain.com).
  5. Under Advanced settings:
    • Choose Permanent Redirect (301)
    • Keep Forwarding Over SSL on
  6. Click Save.

Changes may take up to 48 hours to fully propagate.
