Setting up a Custom Domain with Squarespace Domains
Note: Google Domains was acquired by Squarespace in 2023 and all domains were migrated by mid-2024. If you previously managed your domain through Google Domains, it is now managed through Squarespace Domains.
Adding a CNAME Record
- Go to your Squarespace Domains dashboard and click on your domain name.
- Click DNS, then DNS Settings.
- Scroll down to Custom Records and click Add Record.
- You may be asked to re-authenticate with your password.
- In the Type dropdown, select CNAME.
- In the Host field, enter:
www - In the Data field (sometimes labeled “Alias Data”), enter your IndieMade URL (e.g.,
yourshop.indiemade.com). Do not includehttp://or any slashes - just the hostname. - Click Save.
Setting Up Domain Forwarding
You need to forward your root domain (yourdomain.com) to www.yourdomain.com so visitors who omit the “www” still reach your site.
- In your Squarespace Domains dashboard, click on your domain.
- Look for the Forwarding section.
- In the Subdomain field, enter
@to represent the root domain. - Under Enter website URL, enter your domain with www (e.g.,
www.yourdomain.com). - Under Advanced settings:
- Choose Permanent Redirect (301)
- Keep Forwarding Over SSL on
- Click Save.
Changes may take up to 48 hours to fully propagate.
