Running Your Shop with an AI Assistant
An AI assistant can work inside your IndieMade shop with you. You say what you want in everyday words, and it does the clicking. "Raise every frame price by 10 percent." "Write a spring landing page and add it to the menu." "Unpublish anything sold out for 90 days." This page shows how to connect one, what it can do, and how you stay in control.
Where to find it
Go to Dashboard → Settings → AI Integration. You can also open it from its card on Settings → IndieMade Add-ons. AI Integration is switched on from the start of your trial. It is part of Plus.
Connecting your assistant
The AI Integration page shows Your shop connection address with a Copy address button. Every assistant uses that one address. The connection opens your shop login, so there is no key to create or paste.
Claude (web, phone or desktop app)
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector. Use your shop name and paste the connection address.
- Choose Connect. Sign in to your shop in the new tab, then choose Allow.
- Start a new chat, turn your shop on under the tools button, and ask "What can you do in my shop?"
Connect once and Claude can use the shop from the web, phone and desktop apps.
ChatGPT (web or desktop app)
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose Create. If it is hidden, turn on Developer mode under Advanced settings, then return to Connectors.
- Use your shop name, paste the connection address, choose OAuth, and leave client ID and secret empty.
- Sign in to your shop, choose Allow, then turn the shop on from the + button in a new chat.
ChatGPT calls custom connectors "apps" on some screens. Your shop may appear under either name.
Grok (web, phone or tablet app)
- On a computer, go to grok.com/connectors and sign in.
- Choose New Connector, then Custom.
- Use your shop name, paste the connection address, and continue.
- Sign in to your shop and choose Allow.
On a Grok Business or Enterprise account, your team administrator may need to add the connector first.
Gemini (web, phone or tablet app)
- On a computer, open gemini.google.com, then go to Settings and Connected Apps.
- Under Custom apps, choose Add a custom app.
- Paste the connection address, choose Next, then sign in to your shop and choose Allow.
- In a chat, type @ and choose your shop when you want Gemini to use it.
Google currently offers custom apps in English to adults in the US who use a personal Google Account with Keep Activity on. Work and school accounts are not supported yet.
What your assistant can do
Nearly everything in your dashboard: products, variations and options, categories, pages, sections and menus, photos, galleries and files, orders, promotions and coupons, shipping, tax, payments, reviews, blog posts, reports, design, redirects and store settings.
Some things it can also do:
- Install and remove add-ons. Ask it what add-ons you have, or to switch one on. It follows the same rules as the Add-ons page. Installing never charges you.
- Add a video to a product. Give it a direct link to the video file (MP4, MOV or WebM). A YouTube or Instagram page is not a video file, so it will say so. In Claude Code it can also upload a video file from your computer. See Adding Videos to Your Products.
- Keep your web addresses safe. When it renames a product, page or category, the web address stays put, the same as in the dashboard. It can read and change the switch on SEO Settings if you ask. See SEO on IndieMade.
- Add code to your site. It can add head snippets, styles and scripts, the same as Add to Head.
- Open a support ticket. When it is stuck, it offers to write to IndieMade support. It shows you the text and sends it only after you say yes. Replies come to your email, and you can ask it "what did support say?"
You are always in control
- Disconnect any time. Every connected assistant is listed under API keys on the AI Integration page. Click Revoke on its row and it stops working at once.
- Take a backup first. Before a big job, ask the assistant to take a backup of the items it will change. It keeps a full copy.
- Undo for 30 days. Every change an assistant makes is recorded for 30 days. Ask it to show what it changed, and to put it back.
- A daily backup behind both. IndieMade keeps a daily backup of your shop for 7 days. If something is lost that the first two cannot put back, email support the same day.
API keys
Most people should use the sign-in connection above. Create a key only when an assistant asks for one instead of opening your shop login. On the AI Integration page, under Create an API key, type a label such as "Claude on my laptop" and click Create API key. Copy the key right away. It is shown once. Give each assistant its own key, so you can disconnect one and keep the others.
Tips
- Start with a question. "What can you do in my shop?" and "Show me my ten best sellers" change nothing.
- Ask for a preview before a big change: "Show me what you would change first."
- Be specific about which products: a category, a search word, or a list.
