Adding Your Categories to Your Main Menu
Your categories can sit right inside your main menu, alongside Home, About and your other pages. They are styled to match your other menu items, and opening one shows a full-width menu of everything underneath it.
How this is different from the Category Menu
IndieMade gives you two ways to show categories, and you can use either one, or both.
- The Category Menu is its own separate menu, shown on your store pages.
- Main Menu Categories puts your categories in your site's main menu, next to your regular pages.
Turning one on does not change the other.
Turning it on
- On the Dashboard left menu click on Design
- On the Design page click on Store Design
- Scroll to Main Menu Categories
- Set Show in Main Menu to the option you want
- Click Save
You can also reach these settings from the gear icon on your Categories page.
Choosing how your categories appear
Show in Main Menu gives you three choices.
- Off leaves your main menu exactly as it is. This is the standard setting.
- Single menu item adds one item to your menu, and opening it shows all of your categories together.
- Each top-level category puts every one of your main categories in the menu as its own item, each opening the categories underneath it.
If you have a lot of categories, Single menu item usually keeps your menu tidier.
Naming the menu item
When you choose Single menu item, you can name it whatever suits your shop in the Menu item label box — Shop, Categories, Browse. If you leave it blank it will say Shop.
Where it sits in your menu
Position in menu decides whether your categories come before your other menu items or after them.
On phones
The full-width category menu is shown on larger screens. On a phone, the menu item takes your shopper straight to your store.
