Adding Videos to Your Products

A short video shows a shopper what a photo cannot: how a piece moves, how big it is in a hand, how it catches the light. On IndieMade you can upload up to two short videos to any product. They play right inside the product photo gallery on every product layout. You can also add videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Instagram or Podbean to any page with a Video section.

Adding a video to a product

Go to Dashboard → Products and click Add product, or open a product you already have. The Videos box sits directly under your product photos.

  1. Click Add video and choose a video file from your computer or phone.
  2. The video uploads straight from your browser. A progress bar shows how far along it is. Click Cancel if you picked the wrong file.
  3. Once uploaded, the video shows Processing… while it is prepared for playback. This usually takes a few minutes. You can save the product right away; the video appears in your store as soon as it is ready.
  4. Click Save on the product.

What you can upload

  • Formats: MP4, WebM or iPhone video (.mov).
  • Size: up to 2 GB per file. If a file is larger, trim or compress it first.
  • How many: up to two videos per product.

Ordering and removing videos

With two videos, drag one onto the other to swap them. The label under each tile tells you which one Plays first and which Plays second. To remove a video, click the × on its tile and save the product. The video is deleted from our video host when you save, so it will not count toward your storage.

How videos look in your store

Videos appear as extra slides in the product photo gallery, after your photos. This works on every product page layout. A shopper clicks the play button on the slide and the video starts muted, on a loop, so it plays without surprising anyone with sound. The player controls let them turn the sound on.

A video that is still processing does not show in the store yet. It appears automatically once it is ready, usually within a few minutes.

Adding videos to a page with Sections

Product videos are files you upload. For videos that already live on YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Instagram or Podbean, use a Video columns section on any page instead. See Sections & Layouts for how to add a section.

  1. Add a section and pick the Video columns template.
  2. Click the video item and paste the link in Video URL. Just the link is fine. If you paste a whole embed code, we pull the link out of it.
  3. Click Save Video. Add a title and description to the item if you like.
  4. Add more items and increase the columns to build a video grid.

Links that work

  • YouTube: any watch link or short link, for example https://youtu.be/abc123.
  • Vimeo and Podbean links.
  • Facebook videos and reels: paste the video's own address or the Share link. Share links and fb.watch links are converted to the video's real address when you save, so the player works.
  • Instagram posts and reels: paste the post or reel link, for example https://www.instagram.com/reel/abc123/. Profile, story and highlight links are not videos and will not work.

Video options for the section

In the section's settings, Video options apply to every video in that section:

  • Don't autoplay — wait for the shopper to press play.
  • Play with sound — start with the sound on instead of muted.
  • Show player controls — show the play, pause and volume buttons.

Tips

  • Keep product videos short. A 10 to 30 second clip loads fast and gets watched to the end.
  • Shoot vertical or square for jewelry and small items. The gallery fits the video to the slide.
  • Put your best photo first. The video slides come after the photos, so the photo is still what shoppers see in listings.
  • If the Videos box says video hosting is not set up for your site yet, email us and we will turn it on.
