Receipts and Packing Slips
Every order on IndieMade comes with three documents: the email receipt your buyer gets the moment they order, a printable receipt for your records or the box, and a packing slip. All three share one clean layout and one logo, and you decide what appears on each. Put your logo, shop name and address at the top, write your own opening and closing messages, and turn photos, SKUs, prices, the order number and buyer notes on or off. Leave prices off the packing slip for gifts and add a personal note instead.
Where to Find It
Go to Dashboard → Settings → Store Settings and click Order Documents in the section list. You will see four cards: Document Logo, Email Receipt, Order Receipt and Packing Slip. Click Save at the bottom when you are done.
You can also change these settings while looking at a document. Open any order's receipt or packing slip and click the gear icon labeled Document settings. The same switches appear in a small panel, and the document reloads as you save. The settings are shared, so a change made from either place applies to every order.
Document Logo
One logo is used on all three documents. If you do not upload one, your store logo is used instead, and the page tells you which one is in use.
- Document Logo — Upload any size image. Oversized images are resized for you.
- Logo size & placement — Pick a tile: Auto, Small, beside name, Large, beside name, Small, centered, Medium, centered, Large, centered or Full width. Auto chooses for you based on the shape of your logo.
Each document has its own Show logo switch, so you choose where the logo appears.
Email Receipt
This is the confirmation email sent to the buyer when they place an order. It confirms the purchase, the totals and the shipping address.
- Show logo — Display your logo at the top of the email. Uncheck for a plain text header.
- Show store name in email — Uncheck if your logo already shows your shop name.
- Email subject — The subject line. Including your shop name helps buyers spot it in a busy inbox.
- Opening message and Show opening message — A short thank-you or greeting at the top. Supports bold text and color.
- Closing message and Show closing message — A sign-off at the bottom. Good for support info or social links. If you leave it blank, the email says Thank you for your order!
Your opening and closing messages also print on the Order Receipt unless you write receipt-only versions below.
Order Receipt
A printable summary of the order. Use it for your records, your accountant, or to slip into a shipment.
- What this document is called — Printed at the top right and used for the link on each order. Receipt suits a shop paid at checkout. Wholesale and trade shops often prefer Invoice or Order. A receipt proves payment and an invoice requests it, so pick the word your bookkeeping expects. The Resend link on each order uses the same word.
- Show logo — Print the document logo at the top.
- Show store name — Uncheck if your logo already shows your shop name.
- Shop web address — Overrides the address printed on the receipt. Leave blank to use your shop address.
- Opening message (receipt only) and Closing message (receipt only) — Replace the email messages on the printed receipt. Leave blank to use the same ones.
- Show order number — Buyers quote it when they get in touch, so leave it on unless your own paperwork carries a different reference.
- Show product photos — A thumbnail of each item in the items table.
- Show SKUs — Adds a SKU column. Handy for inventory or fulfillment.
- Show prices — Item prices, subtotal, shipping and order total.
- Show buyer notes — Any notes the buyer left at checkout, such as delivery instructions or a gift message.
- Show opening message and Show closing message — Turn the messages on or off for the printed receipt.
The receipt shows the buyer's shipping choice when it means something to them: the USPS service they picked, or Local Pickup.
Packing Slip
The slip that goes in the box. Prices are off by default, which makes it right for gifts.
- Show logo — Print the document logo at the top of the slip.
- Show "Ships from" address — Print your shop's address as a return address.
- Show order number — It is how you match the box to the order. Turn it off if the slip goes to the buyer as a gift.
- Show product photos — A thumbnail of each item so the buyer can match the slip to the box at a glance.
- Show prices — Off by default. Turn it on if you want totals on the slip.
- Show buyer notes — Any notes the buyer left at checkout.
- Personalized note — Printed on every packing slip. Great for a thank-you, a discount code for the next order, or care instructions.
The packing slip shows the shipping method the buyer chose, whatever carrier or rate it was.
Printing a Document for an Order
- Go to Dashboard → Orders.
- Open the actions menu on the order you want.
- Click Receipt (or the name you gave it) or Packing Slip. The document opens in a new tab.
- Click the print icon at the top of the document, or use your browser's print command. The buttons and settings panel do not print.
Tips
- Shipping a gift? Leave Show prices off on the packing slip, turn off Show order number, and write a warm Personalized note.
- If your logo already carries your shop name, uncheck Show store name on each document so the name does not appear twice.
- Your shop's return address comes from the Store Info section on the same page. Keep it current so the packing slip is right. See Store Settings.
- To change how orders move from paid to shipped, see Order Workflow & Stages.
