A favicon, short for "favorite icon", is a small image that represents your website across web browsers and devices. It appears next to your website title in browser tabs, bookmarks, history archives, and among other places. Creating a memorable favicon can help with brand recognition and enhance user experience.
Why it matters:
- Visibility: Makes your website stand out in a sea of tabs.
- Branding: Strengthens your identity and helps users quickly recognize your site.
- Professionalism: A well-designed favicon is a hallmark of a thoughtful and professionally crafted website.
How to Add Your Favicon to IndieMade:
- Navigate to Settings: Look for the Settings icon () located in the top right corner of the IndieMade Dashboard. It resembles a gear.
- Access Basic Site Info: After clicking on the Settings icon, a dropdown menu will appear. Select the Basic Site Info option to access your site's fundamental settings.
- Upload your Favicon: Look for the Website Icon (Favicon) section and choose your file to upload.
- Save Your Changes: Click Save and the bottom of the page to save your changes.
Choosing Your Favicon File:
You have the flexibility to use various file types for your favicon. While the traditional format is .ico, modern browsers also support JPG, GIF, and PNG formats. This variety allows you to choose the file that works best for you.
Designing Your Favicon:
Your favicon represents your website at a glance, so its design should be simple and clear. Given that favicons are displayed at a small size, a clean and recognizable design will stand out more effectively. We recommend a size of 32x32 pixels for optimal clarity, though modern browsers are adept at scaling larger images to fit.
