How to Setup Shipping on IndieMade

IndieMade offers several shipping methods to fit different types of stores. You can use one method for all your products or assign different methods to individual products. To get started, go to Dashboard → Settings → Shipping.

Choosing a Shipping Mode

At the top of the Shipping settings page, choose how you want to assign shipping methods:

  • All of my products use the same shipping method - Pick one method and it applies to everything in your store. Best for most stores.
  • I would like to choose different shipping methods per product - Each product can use a different shipping method. A shipping method selector appears on each product edit page. You can also use bulk editing to assign methods across multiple products at once.

Shipping Methods

Simple Shipping

Our most flexible shipping method where you set your own rates. You define a price per destination zone with separate pricing for the first item and each additional item added to the cart. Learn more about Simple Shipping.

  • Set a by itself rate (charged for the first item) and a with another rate (charged for each additional item) per zone.
  • Create multiple shipping options (e.g., Standard, Expedited, Overnight) with different rates for each.
  • Define zones for domestic, international, or specific regions.
  • Optional local pickup at no charge.

Best for: Stores that want full control over shipping pricing without needing product weights and dimensions.

USPS (Calculated Shipping)

Calculates live shipping rates from the United States Postal Service at checkout based on package weight, dimensions, and destination. No third-party account or API key needed - rates are fetched directly from USPS. Learn more about USPS Shipping.

  • Supports USPS Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, and international services.
  • Choose which services to offer at checkout.
  • Option for commercial (discounted) or retail rates.
  • Supports cubic pricing for small, heavy packages.
  • Optional local pickup.

Requirements: All products must have weight and dimensions set. Your store must have a US ZIP code configured in Store Settings.

Best for: US-based stores that want accurate, real-time USPS rates.

ShipStation

Connects to your ShipStation account to fetch live shipping rates from all your connected carriers - USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, and more - in a single request at checkout. Customers see rates from multiple carriers sorted by price. ShipStation plans start at $9.99/month. Learn more about ShipStation.

  • Rates from multiple carriers displayed at checkout, sorted by price.
  • Choose which carriers and service levels to offer.
  • Manage labels and fulfillment from ShipStation.

Requirements: ShipStation account with API v2 key. All products must have weight and dimensions set. All products in the store must use ShipStation - it cannot be mixed with other shipping methods.

Best for: Stores that ship with multiple carriers and want one platform for rates, labels, and fulfillment.

Shippo

Connects to your Shippo account to fetch live shipping rates from multiple carriers - USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, and more. Customers see all available rates sorted by price at checkout. Shippo offers a free starter plan where you only pay per label. Learn more about Shippo.

  • Rates from all connected carriers returned in a single fast request.
  • Filter which services appear at checkout.
  • Rates sorted by price for easy comparison.

Requirements: Shippo account with API token. All products must have weight and dimensions set. All products in the store must use Shippo - it cannot be mixed with other shipping methods.

Best for: Stores that want multi-carrier rate comparison with a free-to-start platform.

Note: If you do not see ShipStation or Shippo in your shipping settings, please contact support@indiemade.com to have them enabled for your account.

Shipping Zones

Simple Shipping and USPS use zones to define where you ship and at what price. A zone is a group of countries or regions. For example, you might have a “Domestic” zone for your home country and an “International” zone for everywhere else. You can create as many zones as you need with different rates for each. Free Shipping

You can offer free shipping through promotions and coupons. Learn more about offering free shipping.

Tips

  • If you use ShipStation, Shippo, or USPS, make sure every product has weight and dimensions set. Without this information, rates cannot be calculated and customers will not see shipping options at checkout.
  • You can set weight and dimensions in bulk using bulk editing - select your products and use the Set Weight & Dimensions action.
  • ShipStation and Shippo are exclusive methods - they cannot be mixed with other shipping methods. Every item in the cart must use the same carrier integration.
  • For stores that ship different products different ways, use the per-product shipping mode with Simple Shipping.
